TWO OTTOMAN DIVIT QALAMDANS, 19TH CENTURY - Two Ottoman divit qalamdans represents traditional writing equipment worn by scribes and officials in the Ottoman Empire. Each piece consists of a long tubular pen case (qalamdan) attached to a small hinged inkwell (divit) mounted near one end. The elongated rectangular pen cases were designed to hold reed pens (qalam) and other writing implements. Attached to the side is a faceted inkwell with a hinged lid, allowing the user to access ink while keeping it secure during travel. Length 21 cm. Total weight 483 gr.
