Bidspirit auction | Antique American Golden Oak Two-Door
Antique American Golden Oak Two-Door Knockdown Wardrobe with Carved Crest and Drawers - This antique American wardrobe dates to the Golden Oak period, approximately 1890 to 1910. The one-piece cabinet is constructed of oak with a golden brown finish and a vertical tongue-and-groove planked back. The exterior is defined by an arched pediment featuring a central relief-carved crest with scrolling foliate motifs and a central floral wheel. The upper corners and side returns are accented by square blocks with carved sunburst patterns. The two full-length doors feature recessed panels with rounded upper corners and are mounted on external metal barrel hinges. The right-hand door retains a small diamond-shaped metal escutcheon. The base section contains two side-by-side drawers constructed with machine-cut dovetail joints. Each drawer is fitted with two ornate cast metal bail handles featuring chased backplates. The interior is configured with a horizontal wooden clothes rail and contains a loose interior shelf board. Internal markings include a stamp on the loose board reading WARDROBE A 51 and the numbers 187 stamped on the upper interior back panel, which appear to be factory production marks.
