A Pair of Antique Columbia School Supply Co. Cast Iron and Oak Desks - This lot consists of two antique school furniture units manufactured by the Columbia School Supply Company of Piqua, Ohio. One unit features an oak desktop with an integrated folding seat attached to the rear of the frame, designed to accommodate the student in the row behind. The second unit is a standalone folding seat assembly, typically utilized as a front-row piece. The desktop is constructed from solid oak and features a recessed pencil groove and a circular cutout for an inkwell. Beneath the desktop is a decorative cast iron lattice-work book rack. The support structures are made of scrolled cast iron with a black finish. The seats are a folding theater-style design with curved oak slats. The units are currently bolted to contemporary pine runner blocks to allow them to stand freely for display. The name COLUMBIA and the location PIQUA, O. are cast into the lattice of the book rack. A raised number 3 is embossed on the upper scrollwork of the leg frames, denoting the manufacturer size classification.
