Victorian-Era Astronomy Simplified Illustrated Book, 1875, J. A. S. Rollwyn - An antique Victorian-era hardcover book, titled ”ASTRONOMY SIMPLIFIED For General Reading” by J. A. S. Rollwyn, published in 1875 by William Tegg & Co. of London and Scribner, Welford, & Armstrong of New York. The book features a red cloth binding elaborately decorated with gold tooling in a late 19th-century aesthetic, detailing the title, ”ILLUSTRATED,” and publishers on both the front cover and spine. The design incorporates ornate initial letters and calligraphic script. Internally, the book contains numerous text pages, a preface, and several full-page plates illustrating astronomical subjects such as nebulae, solar phenomena, and the zodiacal light, often presented in limited color palettes, and noting contributions to ”Spectrum Analysis.” A ”GEORGE BARNES” bookplate is present on the front endpaper, with handwritten numbers ”2Z-” and ”450” on the rear endpaper.
