Mid-19th Century 1/6th Plate Daguerreotype of an Elderly Couple in a Union Case, St. John N.B. - A mid-19th century 1/6th plate daguerreotype, presenting a formal portrait of an older man and woman. The image is framed by a decorative brass mat, which bears the inscription ”ST. JOHN N. B.” at the bottom. It is housed in a dark, embossed leather or pressed paper Union case with a dark red velvet lining on the opposing interior side. The photograph itself exhibits surface dust and minor imperfections consistent with age but remains largely intact with discernible details of the subjects. The brass mat appears slightly tarnished.
