Late 19th to Early 20th Century Photographic Album with Historical Portraits and Scenic Views - A photographic album from the late 19th to early 20th century, quarter-bound in brown leather with gilt tooling on the spine and corners, complemented by dark, pebbled cloth boards. The album contains numerous mounted, sepia-toned photographs, likely albumen prints, often presented within octagonal cutouts on thick cream-colored cardstock pages. The content primarily features portraits of historical figures including Chaucer, Dante, Queen Louise of Prussia, Beethoven, Milton, and Rembrandt's Wife. Additionally, the album includes various scenic and architectural views such as Westminster Abbey, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, a ”Dutch Milk Waggon,” and ”Queen Mary's Bedroom Holyrood Palace Edinburgh.” Most images are accompanied by handwritten English ink captions. A notable exception is a religious print captioned ”He is Risen. Beschwerden.” (German for 'complaints' or 'troubles'). Artists' signatures, including ”T. Hrainer” and ”Pichler,” are visible on some prints.
