A Pair of 1919 Children's Books Illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith: The Water Babies and At the Back of the North Wind - A pair of early 20th-century illustrated children's books, both featuring illustrations by Jessie Willcox Smith. The first volume is ”The Water Babies” by Charles Kingsley, a 1919 edition published by Hodder and Stoughton Limited for Boots Pure Drug Co. Ltd. It is bound in green cloth with elaborate gold gilt lettering and a detailed illustration of a child riding a fish on the front cover and spine, and contains numerous tipped-in color plate illustrations. The second volume is ”At the Back of the North Wind” by George MacDonald, a 1919 edition (MCMXIX) published by David McKay, Philadelphia. This volume features a tan/cream cloth binding with a large pictorial paste-down panel on the front cover, bordered in gold and blue, displaying a dark blue, stylized image, complemented by gold gilt lettering for the title and author; it also contains tipped-in color illustrations.
