Bidspirit auction | An English Gilded Brass Verge

An English Gilded Brass Verge Fusee Pocket Watch Movement and Dial, Robt Harris, Fords Bridge, Late 17th/Mid-18th Century - An antique English gilded brass verge fusee pocket watch movement and its accompanying white enamel dial. The movement is constructed from gilded brass, featuring ornate Baroque-style pierced and engraved foliate decoration on the pillar plate and balance cock, with a central sunburst motif. It is visibly signed ”Robt Harris” and ”FORDS / BRIDGE”. The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals for hours and Arabic numerals for minutes in five-minute increments, with a single, possibly blued, hour hand present. The visible fusee mechanism suggests a verge escapement, characteristic of horology from the late 17th to mid-18th century.
