Standard railway-style lantern, featuring a dark red glass globe encased within a sturdy, darkened metal frame with a fixed carrying handle and a metal fuel fount at the base. The dark red glass globe is embossed with the text ”ADAMS NO. 3” and ”STANDARD.” The metal frame's vertical support is stamped with ”PATENTED” followed by a series of dates, including July 23, 1887, January 24, 1888, February 21, 1888, October 23, 1888, December 24, 1889, March 11, 1890, January 26, 1892, September 26, 1893, April 24, 1894, November 13, 1894, and May 19, 1896, indicating a late 19th-century manufacturing period. The fuel fount bears a partial marking of ”AdCo”. An attached wooden tag on the base reads ”STEAM GAUGE LANTERN SYRACUSE”.
