Early 20th Century Wall-Mounted 'Fire Brigade Telephone' in Oak Cabinet - A vintage wall-mounted ”Fire Telephone” apparatus, housed within a rectangular polished wooden cabinet, likely constructed from oak, featuring a glass viewing panel on its front. The design and components suggest an early 20th-century utilitarian style. Two brass plates are affixed to the cabinet: the upper plate is inscribed ”FIRE TELEPHONE”, while the lower plate provides operational instructions in English: ”TO CALL THE BRIGADE: BREAK THE GLASS: LIFT THE TELEPHONE: LISTEN FOR REPLY: THEN SPEAK.” Visible inside are the telephone's internal elements, including a black ear- or mouthpiece with a perforated grille, a metal receiver or bell unit, and fabric-wrapped wiring.
