City of Rochester Fire Lantern, Triumph No. 2, Industrial-Style Metal Lantern with Red Glass Globe - An antique City of Rochester Fire Lantern, designated Triumph No. 2. This lantern was utilized by the City of Rochester Fire Department to identify fire hydrants at night. Constructed primarily of metal with an oxidized and rust-patinated finish, featuring a prominent red glass globe. The metal components show significant surface wear, discoloration, and corrosion consistent with age and utility use. The metal base is visibly marked ”PROPERTY OF CITY OF ROCHESTER” and ”TRIUMPH No. 2”. The red glass globe is embossed with ”No.30 E” flanked by radiating lines. An attached paper tag further identifies the item and its historical use. This style of lantern is often associated with railroad and industrial utility use, similar to models produced by manufacturers such as Dietz, Embury, and C.T. Ham.
