Bidspirit auction | A Chinese Carved Jade Hardstone
A Chinese Carved Jade Hardstone Tripod Censer and Cover - This is a single Chinese tripod censer, or ding vessel, carved from a semi-translucent pale celadon hardstone or jade. The piece is composed of a globular tripod bowl and a fitted tiered lid. The hardstone exhibits natural mottling, veining, and dark inclusions, particularly visible across the body. The bowl rests on three short feet and is decorated in high relief with stylized beasts or dragons encircling the circumference. Dragon-head handles project horizontally from the rim of the bowl, each featuring a fixed loop attachment beneath the snout. The tiered lid is surmounted by a complex, perforated finial carved in the form of coiled dragons or scrolling clouds, and features two additional handles, each suspending a carved ring. No visible text, maker's marks, or period markings are present.
