Antique End of Day Blown Glass Parade Cane - A decorative glass cane, commonly referred to as an ”End of Day” or ”Whimsy” parade cane, constructed from pale aquamarine glass. The cane features a cylindrical shaft that curves into a thick, solid, J-shaped hook handle. The interior of the shaft is decorated with bundled multi-colored glass threads, executed in a filigrana technique, primarily featuring white, blue, and pink/red stripes, resulting in a strongly ribbed exterior surface. This object is consistent with examples of glass whimsies made by glass workers at the end of their shift. The cane is associated with provenance noting that it was found in the basement of an old estate in Elmira NY, and is presumably Steuben, though no manufacturer markings are present.
