Bidspirit auction | ORIGINAL ART for BEDE Cigar

ORIGINAL ART for BEDE Cigar Box Label, F.M. Howell & Sons, Elmira NY - The original art for an inner cigar store box label, branded ”BEDE.” This sample print is consistent with the commercial art produced by F.M. Howell & Sons of Elmira, NY, who were known for creating THE ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED ART for cigar store box labels during the late 19th or early 20th century. The composition features a central female figure in a white gown and blue drapery, seated between two crowned heraldic shields, backed by yellow sun rays. The design incorporates clusters of red roses on the left and dried tobacco leaves on the right. Metallic gold inks are utilized extensively for accenting the shields and decorative scrolls. A stylized interlocking monogram, likely ”F&S,” is visible on the central pedestal. The print is currently mounted onto a dark mat board, likely preserved as a salesman's sample.
