A Collection of American Carved Bovine Powder Horns - A collection of American hand-carved bovine black powder horns designed for use with muzzle-loading firearms. The items are constructed from translucent and opaque natural horn, featuring wooden end plugs secured with small metal tacks. Several pieces include leather carrying straps or cords. One large horn displays scrimshaw decoration with a diamond pattern and the words TREAD LIGHTLY. Another horn is inscribed with JS 1771, while a separate piece is marked WS APR 22 1979. The collection includes various forms, from small priming horns to larger powder flasks.
