J. Lyons Penn Yan New York Salt-Glazed Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration - This salt-glazed stoneware crock is a 19th-century utilitarian vessel produced by J. Lyons in Penn Yan, New York. The crock features a cylindrical form with a slightly flared, thickened rim and two applied lug handles. The exterior exhibits a characteristic salt-glaze orange peel texture, while the interior is finished with a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze. The front of the vessel is decorated with a hand-brushed cobalt blue slip motif depicting a stylized floral spray, consisting of a central multi-petaled blossom and elongated leaves. Additional cobalt blue highlights are applied at the terminals of both lug handles. The upper front of the crock bears two lines of impressed text reading J. LYONS / PENN YAN.
