S.T. Brewer Havana New York Four Gallon Salt Glazed Stoneware Crock - This salt-glazed stoneware crock features the stamped maker mark of S.T. Brewer of Havana, New York. The item is a large, cylindrical four-gallon vessel constructed with a thick, rounded rim and two applied lug handles. The upper face of the crock bears the cobalt blue stamped text S. T. BREWER on the first line and HAVANA on the second line, positioned above a large, stylized number 4 indicating its capacity. The front of the crock is decorated with a hand-painted stylized floral and foliate scroll motif executed in deep cobalt blue slip. Additional cobalt blue highlights are present at the terminals where the lug handles meet the body. The exterior surface exhibits a characteristic orange peel texture from the salt-glazing process, while the interior is finished with a dark brown slip glaze.
