US Obsolete Currency, Corporation of Shepherdstown, Virginia, One Dollar Scrip, 1862 - A US obsolete currency note for One Dollar issued by the Corporation of Shepherdstown, Virginia. The note is dated May 1, 1862, and references an act from May 17, 1861. The face features a central vignette depicting a farmer with a scythe and a left-side vignette of a seated allegorical figure holding a bundle of wheat. It is printed in black ink with a red outline underprint of the word ONE. The reverse displays a decorative green overprint reading ONE DOLLAR. The note includes the handwritten serial number 318 and plate letter B. Handwritten signatures are present for the positions of Treasurer, Recorder, and for the Mayor. The printer imprint Murphy, print. Balt. is located at the bottom left. A vertical handwritten notation reading Dawson is present on the left side of the face. Width: 17.5 cm.
