J.S. Steere, Still Life with Grapes, Oil on Canvas, 1902 - This oil on stretched canvas still life, dated 1902, depicts an arrangement of green, red, and purple grapes resting upon a white cloth, with several clusters contained within a low-profile woven basket. The work is signed J.S. Steere. 1902. in the lower right corner and bears the handwritten name J.S. Steere on the verso of the canvas. The composition features blended brushwork in the background and soft impasto highlights on the fruit to suggest translucency. The painting is housed in an ornate, gilded composition frame that retains a partial paper seller label on the reverse for Charles G.
