Item Overview
Description:
Stickley Bros. Co. Quaint Furniture Mission Oak Rocking Chair
This American Arts and Crafts period rocking chair is a product of the Stickley Bros. Co. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, from their Quaint Furniture line. The piece is constructed from Quaint Furniture Stickley Bros. quarter-sawn white oak, featuring prominent medullary ray flake grain throughout the seat and arms. The design follows a classic Mission aesthetic with a three-slat horizontal backrest and wide, flat paddle-style arms. The solid wood seat is contoured for comfort. Construction details include traditional mortise and tenon joinery with visible wooden pegs at key stress points. An original copper-toned metal manufacturer's tag is affixed to the rear stretcher, featuring a stylized oil lamp emblem and the text QUAINT FURNITURE STICKLEY BROS. CO. GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.
Overall Height: 34 inches
Overall Width: 24.5 inches
Seat Depth: 18.5 inches.
The chair is in good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Visible surface scratches, scuffs, and minor losses to the dark finish are present throughout the frame. One lower stretcher joint at the rear right shows a visible separation where the tenon has pulled slightly away from the mortise. The bottom of the rockers exhibits typical wear from contact with floor surfaces.
