18th Century Heraldic Wax Seal Impression, Du Bois and Koolewerff Families, dated 1762 and 1774 - This item is an antique heraldic seal impression of European origin, likely Dutch or Huguenot, mounted on a square card for genealogical or heraldic study. The seal is composed of a dark grey-brown wax or similar composition and features a complete armorial achievement. The central escutcheon or shield depicts an animal head facing heraldic right, surmounted by a barred helmet with elaborate scrolling mantling. A circular legend is present around the border in capital letters, with the Latin word SIGILLVM visible at the 1 o'clock position and the name DU BOIS at the 9 o'clock position. The seal is secured to a tan cardstock mount through a circular cut-out using thin paper mounting strips. The card mount contains several handwritten inscriptions in dark ink. The top left is inscribed Du Bois 1762. The top right is inscribed Koolewerff over v= Trach over d. 1774. The bottom right bears the reference number Ch. 703. The paper mounting strip is also inscribed with the names Theodor Du Bois and Eleonor 1762.
