Heraldic Wax Seal Impression of Jan Waarts, circa 1700 - This item is a circular heraldic wax seal impression mounted on an archival card fragment. The seal features a coat of arms consisting of a heater-style shield surmounted by a helmet with decorative mantling. A raised inscription within a circular border contains the name VAARTS in capital letters. The mounting card features several handwritten ink notations in a late 19th or early 20th-century hand, including the date ± 1700 and the identification Waarts. Jan J. The bottom center of the card includes the printed text Arm Gen Bir. The reverse of the mounting card is composed of a fragment of 19th-century German publisher's ephemera from Velhagen and Klasing, Bielefeld and Leipzig, printed in Fraktur script. This backing suggests the item was part of a systematic sigillographic collection compiled in the late 1800s. The mounting card measures approximately 2 by 2 inches.
