Roelof, et al. Dutch Legal Charter on Parchment. 1422. - This 15th-century manuscript legal charter or deed is written on a single horizontal strip of parchment. The text is composed in a gothic cursive script known as Bastarda in an archaic form of Dutch. The document was issued by local officials, or Schepenen, including an alderman named Roelof. The text includes a date referencing the year 1422, which matches a later numerical annotation on the verso. Two pendant wax seals are attached to the bottom edge by parchment tags. The left seal is circular with a complex gothic heraldic motif, and the right seal is lobed with a shield featuring a coat of arms. The verso includes an old ink inscription reading Cokeham and other faded notations. Width: Approximately 10 inches.
