University of Utrecht. Manuscript Juris Doctor Diploma for Johannes van der Hagen. 1754. - This mid-18th-century manuscript academic diploma on vellum was issued by the University of Utrecht (Academia Ultrajectina) in the Netherlands. Dated April 29, 1754, the document grants a doctoral degree in law (Juris Doctor) to Johannes van der Hagen. The text is executed in a formal Latin calligraphic hand and begins with a large decorative initial S. The diploma prominently mentions the university rector and scholar Petrus Wesseling (Petrum Wesselingium). Affixed to the lower margin via a broad magenta silk ribbon is a large circular red wax pendant seal. The seal features the inscription SIGILLVM ACADEMIAE VTRAIECTINAE surrounding a central heraldic shield within a wreath. The document is signed in the lower right corner by the secretary, P. d. Laerle. The single vellum sheet is approximately folio in format with visible horizontal and vertical fold lines.
