Mocenigo IV, Alvise. Venetian Ducal Decree (Ducale) to Antonio Cornelio. Venice, 1764. - This eighteenth-century manuscript document is an official Venetian ducal decree, known as a ducale, issued under the authority of Alvise IV Mocenigo, Doge of Venice. Dated November 24, 1764, the document is addressed to Antonio Cornelio, the Captain and Podesta of Verona. The manuscript is written in a mix of Latin and Italian chancery script on a single large sheet of paper. The exterior panel features the handwritten address Nobili et sap:ti Viro Antonio Cornelio Capitaneo et Potestati Verone and the urgent instruction Cito Cito Cito repeated three times. The interior text refers to legal proceedings involving a party named Nuvolone and the extraction of raw silk, reading in part Nuvolone nel Processo che si sta formando sopra estrazione di seta grega. The document is formally dated at the bottom Dat. In nro Dti Palatio Die XXIIII Novembris and M D C C L X I V with a scribal signature for Joannes Columbi. A notable feature is the original pendant lead seal, or bulla, attached to the bottom edge by a twisted hemp cord. The obverse of the seal bears the inscription ALOYSIUS MOCENICO DEI GRA DUX VENETIAR ET C, while the reverse depicts Saint Mark presenting a standard to the Doge.
