Mounted Wax Seal Impression of the Rector of the Augustinian Nuns in Zijl Haarlem - This item is a historical wax seal impression mounted on a square tan cardstock board for archival study. The green wax impression represents the institutional seal of the Rector of the Augustinian nunnery known as the Klooster ter Zijl (Cloister on the Zijl) located in Haarlem, Netherlands. The central imagery depicts two figures, identified as the Madonna and Child, set within a decorative architectural frame. The circular border of the seal contains an incised Latin legend that reads S RECTORIS MONIALIVM IN ZYL TE HAERLE. The mounting board contains several handwritten inscriptions in black ink that provide historical context. The top left is marked A 1573 and Vrouwel= augustynen (Dutch for Female Augustinians). The top right is marked HAARLEM and Klooster ter. Zijl. The bottom right features a transcription of the seal legend: S. RECTORIS-MONIALIV. IN-ZYL- TE-HAERLE - 1575. along with a small numeral (6). A single letter R is written in the bottom left corner. This specimen likely dates to the 19th or early 20th century, created as a reproduction of a 16th-century matrix for historical reference.
