Chandler, Charles J. Autograph Letter Signed (ALS) to James C. Biddle, Esq. 1830. (Signed) - An original autograph letter signed (ALS), one page on a single sheet of cream-colored paper, dated May 27, 1830, from Charles J. Chandler to James C. Biddle, Esq. of Montrose, Pennsylvania. The manuscript discusses a real estate transaction in the Susquehanna Valley concerning a lot of land previously occupied by a Mr. Bray. Chandler states that he has sold the improvements and intends to enter into a contract upon his return from the City. The document is written in brown ink and features an elaborate calligraphic flourish beneath the signature. The verso serves as the address panel, identifying the recipient in Montrose and bearing a handwritten receipt date of June 2, 1830. Remnants of a red wax seal are visible on the reverse. Included with the letter is a small, separate handwritten identification slip suggesting the recipient is Commodore James Biddle, the naval officer noted for signing the first treaty between the United States and China.
