18th Century Dutch Heraldic Wax Seal Impression for the Court of Sint Joost and Roosteren - This 18th-century heraldic wax seal impression originates from the province of Limburg, Netherlands, specifically representing the judicial and feudal court of Sint Joost and Roosteren. The circular red wax impression features a detailed heraldic achievement consisting of an escutcheon surmounted by a barred helmet with decorative mantling and a crest featuring a winged creature. The Latin inscription around the perimeter is incised with the characters SIGILLUM : CURIAE : CENS : IN : ST : JOOST : ET : ROOSTR, translating to the Seal of the Court of Taxes in Sint Joost and Roosteren. The seal is mounted on a square of white paper which is further affixed to a brown cardstock mount. The mount contains several handwritten ink notations in Dutch including Leenhof / 18e E. (Feudal Court / 18th Century), St Joost / Roosteren / Limb, and or. lak. R. Arch. Maestr. (Original wax, State Archives in Maastricht). A small pencil mark 50 is present on the white paper mount.
