Early 20th Century Papal Legation to the Netherlands Red Wax Seal Specimen Card - This specimen card features an original red wax seal of the Papal Legation, or Apostolic Nunciature, to the Netherlands. The octagonal seal contains an oval inner border with the embossed Italian inscription LEGATIONE PONTIFICIA NEI PAESI BASSI. The central heraldic device depicts the emblem of the Holy See, featuring the stylized Papal Tiara positioned above the crossed Keys of Saint Peter. The seal is mounted on a light brown cardstock specimen card containing extensive handwritten notations in Dutch and Italian. The top notation reads Pauselijke legatie / Nederl. (Papal Legation / Netherlands). The central text identifies the office as the Legatione pontificia nel rege. del paesi Bassi and describes the heraldry as Tiara en 2 gekr. sleutels (Tiara and 2 crossed keys). A bottom notation indicates the specimen was received in 1926 from an individual named Jacobs associated with a Breda organization (N.B.Ver. Breda). This item represents a primary record of diplomatic relations between the Vatican and the Kingdom of the Netherlands during the early 20th century.
