Two Lots of Dutch Ecclesiastical and Municipal Seals for Assen, Netherlands - This offering consists of two separate lots of Dutch heraldic and administrative ephemera from the city of Assen, the capital of the province of Drenthe. The first lot features a mounted brown-red wax ecclesiastical seal for the Dutch Reformed Church, identified in the handwritten notes as the Nederlands Hervormde Kerk. The seal depicts a seated figure, likely an abbot or bishop, holding a crosier in the left hand and a book in the right, with a small heraldic shield featuring a lion rampant positioned above the figure. The mounting card includes handwritten Dutch identifications including Kerkzegel, Assen, Ned. Herv. Kerk, and a biblical reference to 1 Corinthians 14:40. The second lot is a collection of three municipal seals and labels for the Gemeente Assen mounted on a single card. This grouping includes an octagonal black-on-tan printed paper label, a brown-red wax seal, and a red-and-white scalloped paper label. All three items in the second lot display the municipal coat of arms, which consists of two lions rampant supporting a crowned shield featuring the Virgin Mary and Christ Child. The circular borders on these items are inscribed GEMEENTE ASSEN.
