Roman Empire c. AD 330-337, Pair of AE Follis, Bronze - This set includes two Roman Empire bronze follis coins from the reign of Constantine I, presented in a collection titled The Roman Empire's First Coins of Christianity. The first coin is a Constantinopolis city commemorative type with a helmeted bust of Constantinopolis facing left on the obverse and Victory on a galley prow on the reverse. The second coin is a Gloria Exercitus type, featuring a laureated, draped, and armored bust of Constantine I facing right on the obverse, and two soldiers flanking two military standards on the reverse. The reverse exergue of the second coin is marked .SMTSB., indicating production at the Thessalonica mint. Both coins are composed of a copper alloy with a dark patina. Each coin is housed in a clear plastic slab with a black insert and descriptive label. The collection is presented in a wooden presentation box with a mahogany-style finish and a black lid inset featuring a red Chi-Rho symbol. The interior lid contains a printed reproduction of a painting depicting Constantine’s vision of the cross with the Greek inscription EN TOYΤΩI NIKA. A brass-toned plaque on the front of the box is inscribed THE ROMAN EMPIRE'S FIRST COINS OF CHRISTIANITY.
