Two American Pocket Watch Movements, Elgin and Hampden Genl Stark - This lot features two unhoused antique American pocket watch movements. The first movement is from the Elgin National Watch Co. with serial number 7774597, identifying it as an 18 size, 15-jewel Grade 156 movement produced circa 1898. It features a nickel-finished movement with a safety pinion, damaskeened bridges, and an engraved regulator plate. The white enamel dial displays black Arabic numerals, a red outer minute track with five-minute markers, and a sunken sub-seconds dial. The second movement is a Hampden Watch Co. ”Genl Stark” model, serial number 1589083, produced in Canton, Ohio, circa 1901. This is an 18 size, 17-jewel gilt-finished movement with a safety pinion. Its white enamel dial features black Roman numerals, a red outer minute track, and a sunken sub-seconds dial. Both movements are manual wind and do not include cases. Diameter: approximately 1.75 inches each. Both movements exhibit significant hairline cracks across the porcelain dials. The Hampden dial has numerous cracks originating from the center and edges, while the Elgin dial shows several long cracks extending across the face. The movements show surface oxidation, tarnishing, and minor scratches consistent with their age and being unhoused. Hands are present on both movements but show signs of wear. The mechanical functionality of both items is untested, and they are sold for parts, repair, or restoration.
