Junghans Mahogany Westminster Chime Mantel Clock Retailed by J.E. Caldwell and Co. - A mahogany cased mantel clock in the bracket style, manufactured by Junghans and retailed by the Philadelphia firm J.E. Caldwell and Co. The case features a classic arched top surmounted by a decorative brass swing handle. The front is flanked by fluted pilasters and has a hinged door with an arched brass frame and glass panel. The rear features a wooden door with a circular perforated metal sound vent backed by fabric. The clock sits on four brass bun feet. The arched silvered metal dial features a main chapter ring with black Arabic numerals and a dotted minute track. The center is signed J.E. CALDWELL and CO, PHILADELPHIA. The dial has three winding arbors. An upper secondary dial for regulation is marked with 10, 0, 10 and text 20 SLOW and FAST 20. The clock features decorative darkened steel spade hands. The mechanical eight-day, spring-driven brass movement reveals a series of five horizontal chime rods and a separate coiled wire gong, indicating a quarter-hour Westminster chime and hour strike. The movement includes a pendulum with a brass bob. The upper portion of the circular rear plate is stamped with the number 798. Height: 11.5 inches Width: 8.5 inches Depth: 6.5 inches. The mahogany case shows minor surface wear, light scratches, and small chips consistent with age and use. The silvered dial has some light oxidation and minor surface marks. The movement appears complete with its pendulum, but has not been tested for timekeeping accuracy or mechanical functionality. A winding key is not included.
