Antique Hampden Watch Co. New Railway 17-Jewel Open Face Pocket Watch - An antique open-face pocket watch produced by the Hampden Watch Co. of Canton, Ohio. The white enamel dial features Roman numeral hour markers, a black minute track, and outer red Arabic five-minute indicators. A recessed sub-seconds dial is located at the 6 o'clock position. The dial is signed Hampden Watch Co. in script and is paired with blued steel spade hands. The nickel-finish movement is decorated with damaskeening and is signed NEW Railway, 17 JEWELS., ADJUSTED, SAFETY PINION, H W Co, and Canton, Ohio. The movement serial number is 1285953. The gold-filled case was manufactured by the Philadelphia Watch Case Co. and is marked with a crown logo and GUARANTEED TWENTY YEARS. The case serial number is 8642713. Hand-scratched watchmaker service marks are visible on the interior of the case back. This timepiece is not running. Approximate Diameter: 2 inches (Size 18s). The watch is in fair antique condition. The gold-filled case shows heavy brassing and significant wear to the gold layer, particularly on the edges and back, where the base metal is visible. The enamel dial displays several hairline cracks across the surface. The blued steel hands show some oxidation. The movement is complete but is not currently in running condition.
