Illinois Watch Co Rail Road King Gold Filled Hunter Case Pocket Watch - This is an Illinois Watch Company Rail Road King grade pocket watch housed in a gold filled hunter case. The manual wind, full plate mechanical movement is an adjusted grade featuring Chalmers patent dated January 10, 1882, and a patent pinion. The movement is engraved with Rail Road King, Adjusted, and the manufacturer name Illinois Watch Co. The movement serial number is 731837. The watch features a white porcelain enamel dial with Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track with red Arabic numerals at five minute intervals, and a subsidiary seconds dial at the six o clock position. The dial is marked Illinois Watch Co. SPECIAL FOR RAILWAY SERVICE. The case was manufactured by the Crescent Watch Case Co., as indicated by the C.W.C.CO. stamp and the star and crescent moon trademark. The interior of the case back is marked with the patent date April 22, 1884, and serial number 110901. Several hand scratched jeweler service marks and a red marking reading FRANK 1/198RD are present on the interior. The exterior of the case shows a worn engraved crest or monogram area. The exterior engravings are significantly worn. The movement appears visually intact and is in running condition.
