A Pair of Early 20th Century Art Nouveau Style Drop Earrings with Seahorse Motif and Green Glass Cabochons - This matched pair of drop earrings is designed in the Art Nouveau style, dating to the early 20th century. Each earring features a floral-motif top with a textured surface, possibly representing a pansy or clover, which suspends a linear, tiered link. The link terminates in a circular pendant consisting of a scalloped metal frame housing a translucent green glass cabochon. An applied metal figure in the form of a seahorse or stylized dragon is positioned on the front of each stone. The earrings are constructed with screw-back findings. The flat portion of the screw mechanism is incised with the mark PAT JAN 31 11, referring to a United States patent for a jewelry fastener issued in 1911. The base metal shows a dark patina with visible remnants of a gold-tone wash or plating. Total Length: Approximately 2.25 inches (57 mm) Pendant Diameter: Approximately 0.75 inches (19 mm). The earrings are in fair to good condition, consistent with their age of over 100 years. The metal surfaces show significant age-related patina and wear to the original gold-tone finish. Heavy oxidation and verdigris are present on both screw-back findings. The green glass cabochons are intact and do not show major chips or cracks.
