A Collection of US Kennedy Half Dollars and Commemorative Coins including Gold-Plated Issues - This collection consists of US Kennedy half dollars, US quarters, US dollar coins, and commemorative medals. The primary group includes Kennedy half dollars with selective aftermarket gold plating or layering on the obverse portraits and reverse devices. Visible dates include 1965, 1966, 1972, 1776-1976 Bicentennial, 1979, 1981, 1987, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, and 2013. The 1965 and 1966 issues are composed of 40 percent silver (0.1479 oz.t actual silver weight each). Other components of the lot include a 2002 Ohio state quarter, two gold-toned Presidential dollar coins featuring William Henry Harrison and the Statue of Liberty, a colorized Barack Obama commemorative coin, and a Space Shuttle Columbia Mission STS-107 Final Mission commemorative medal. Items are presented loose, in plastic flips, or in protective circular capsules. Weight of half dollar group: 5.838 oz.t Weight of encapsulated group: 2.035 oz.t. Most items appear in uncirculated or proof-like condition. The 1965 and 1966 silver-clad issues show light toning and handling marks consistent with their composition. The gold plating and colorized elements are third-party aftermarket applications. Encapsulated items show minimal surface wear.
