Bidspirit auction | A Set of 1960 US

A Set of 1960 US Proof Coins - This lot consists of a 1960 United States Proof Set issued by the Philadelphia Mint. The set includes a Franklin half dollar, Washington quarter, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and Lincoln Memorial cent. All coins are dated 1960 and lack mint marks, consistent with Philadelphia production for this era. The silver denominations, comprising the half dollar, quarter, and dime, are struck in 90 percent silver. The nickel is composed of cupro-nickel, and the cent is bronze. The coins are housed in their original Treasury Department tan paper envelope from the United States Mint in Philadelphia, PA, which is marked 1960-P.C. on the bottom left. These coins were struck using proof dies, resulting in sharp strikes and mirrored fields characteristic of the period. The coins are in proof condition but exhibit significant environmental effects from long-term storage. The silver half dollar, quarter, and dime show heavy, mottled dark toning and oxidation across both obverse and reverse surfaces. The Jefferson nickel has a dull grey appearance. The Lincoln cent remains bright with original copper-red color. The accompanying paper envelope shows light toning and creasing consistent with age.
