Antique New York Knife Co. Hammer Brand Gold Filled Two-Blade Vest Pocket Knife - This is an antique two-blade folding vest pocket knife, also referred to as a pen knife, manufactured by the New York Knife Company of Walden, New York. The handle is constructed with gold filled scales. The front handle scale is decorated with an engine-turned guilloche pattern of vertical pinstripes and a polished oval monogram shield, while the reverse side is smooth. A suspension bale is integrated at one end for attachment to a watch chain. The knife features two steel blades: a master blade and a smaller pen blade. The tang stamp on the master blade reads New York Knife Co Walden. The secondary blade tang is stamped with the Hammer Brand trademark, depicting an arm holding a hammer over the words Hammer Brand. The knife is presented in a period velvet-lined storage box. Closed Length: 2.25 inches. The knife is in fair to good antique condition. The steel blades exhibit dark oxidation, patina, and areas of pitting. Significant sharpening wear is present on both blades, affecting their original profiles. The gold filled handle scales show fine surface scratches and wear consistent with age and pocket use. The folding mechanism remains functional, though the blades do not close completely flush with the handle.
