US 1841 Hard Times Token Liberty Head Not One Cent For Tribute HT-68 - 1841 US Hard Times token, attributed to catalog references HT-68 and Low-67. This copper alloy token features a Liberty Head obverse with a scroll inscribed E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 1841 at the base. The reverse features a laurel and oak wreath design enclosing the text NOT ONE CENT, with the perimeter legends MILLIONS FOR DEFENCE and NOT ONE CENT FOR TRIBUTE. These private issues were used as emergency currency during the period of economic instability following the Panic of 1837. Diameter: 28.5 mm. Fine. The token exhibits moderate, even wear on the high points of the portrait and wreath. The surfaces have a consistent dark brown patina with lighter copper tones visible on the worn areas. Minor contact marks and environmental spotting are present.
