1874 US 25 Cent Fractional Currency Fifth Issue Robert J. Walker Note Fr. 1309 - A United States fractional currency note, often referred to as a shinplaster, with a twenty-five cent denomination from the Fifth Issue, Series of 1874. The obverse features a portrait of Robert J. Walker, who served as the Secretary of the Treasury from 1845 to 1849. The note carries the printed signatures of John Allison as Register of the Treasury and F. E. Spinner as Treasurer. The face is printed in black ink and includes a circular red treasury seal. The reverse is printed in green ink with intricate lathework and identifies the printer as the Columbian Bank Note Co. Washington D.C. This note is printed on specialized paper containing visible blue silk security fibers. The item is housed in a clear plastic screw-down holder. Width: 3 1/8 inches Height: 1 7/8 inches. Fine condition. The note shows evidence of moderate circulation including multiple vertical and horizontal folds. There is general paper toning and yellowing throughout. Minor corner wear is present. The obverse centering is shifted toward the left margin.
