1867 and 1868 US Shield Nickels, Lot of 4 - A lot of 4 US copper-nickel Shield Nickels. The collection includes one specimen of the 1867 With Rays reverse variety and three specimens of the No Rays reverse variety, including the 1868 date. These coins are struck in a composition of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel. The obverse features the Shield design with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST and the date at the base. The reverse displays the numeral 5 type surrounded by thirteen stars. All specimens have plain edges and were produced by the United States Mint. The coins exhibit significant circulation wear across all surfaces, with conditions ranging from About Good (AG) to Very Good (VG). Noted defects include heavy flattening of the design high points, mottled dark toning, surface pitting, and scattered contact marks. One specimen shows evidence of environmental damage or heavy oxidation on the reverse.
