A Collection of Six Vintage Silver Age DC Comic Books, 1961 - This lot consists of six vintage Silver Age comic books published by DC Comics (National Periodical Publications) during the year 1961. The collection includes various titles featuring iconic characters and stories from the era. The titles and specific issues included are: Batman #142 (September 1961) featuring Ruler of the Bewitched Valley with cover art by Sheldon Moldoff and Charles Paris; Batman #143 (October 1961) featuring Ace the Bat-Hound in Bat-Hound and the Creature with cover art by Sheldon Moldoff and Charles Paris; World’s Finest Comics #120 (September 1961) featuring Superman, Batman, and Robin in Challenge of the Faceless Creatures with cover art by Curt Swan and Stan Kaye; Mystery in Space #70 (September 1961) featuring Adam Strange in Vengeance of the Dust Devil with cover art by Murphy Anderson; My Greatest Adventure #62 (December 1961) featuring the story We Were Marooned with a Man-Beast; and Sea Devils #2 (June 1961) featuring The Vengeful Undersea Ghost with cover art by Russ Heath. A primary defect affecting the entire lot is the presence of three hole punches along the spine edge of every book, indicating they were previously stored in a three-ring binder. Specific condition issues include detached covers on Batman #142, World’s Finest Comics #120, Mystery in Space #70, and My Greatest Adventure #62. Physical damage to the covers is significant: Batman #142 has a horizontal tear across the center; Sea Devils #2 is missing a large triangular section from the right edge; Mystery in Space #70 shows heavy chipping and paper loss at the corners; and World’s Finest Comics #120 has significant paper loss along the bottom edge. All issues exhibit heavy spine wear, fraying, splits, edge chipping, creasing, and surface soiling. Some issues contain ink or marker scribbles on the back cover advertisements. Sold as-is.
