Lehigh Valley Railroad LVRR Antique Metal Locomotive Oil Can - This antique railroad oiler, also referred to as a tallow pot, was used by the Lehigh Valley Railroad (LVRR) for lubricating steam engine components. The piece is constructed from heavy-gauge sheet metal with a cylindrical body and a tapered top section. It features a wide filling aperture and a short, angled pouring spout. The assembly consists of soldered and crimped seams with a heavy-duty strap handle riveted to the body. The letters L V R R are stamped on the side of the canister. The item retains a dark, heavy coating of industrial residue on the interior and base. Height: 6 inches Base Diameter: 7.25 inches. The item is in as-found, well-used condition. It displays a heavy dark patina with surface oxidation, rust, and pitting across all surfaces. There are various scuffs and minor indentations consistent with industrial age and use. The interior and base have a significant buildup of aged oil and soot residue.
