Bidspirit auction | An Assortment of Antique Brass
An Assortment of Antique Brass Railroad and Industrial Cabinet Keys including S.R.M. Mfg. Co. - This collection consists of multiple antique brass keys, including five barrel keys characterized by hollow shafts and one skeleton key featuring a solid shaft with a decorative turned bit. One barrel key is stamped on the circular bow with S.R.M. MFG. CO. PHILA., identifying it as a product of the S.R.M. Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia, a known maker of transit and railroad hardware. A second key features a distinctive angular bow stamped with a diamond-shaped mark containing the letters HD over K&J, along with the number 420 and the letter A. A third key bears the stamped number 95 on the face of its bow. The keys are manufactured from cast and stamped brass. This type of hardware was historically utilized for railroad cabin doors, transit lockers, and industrial cabinetry during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The keys are in good antique condition, showing signs of historical use and age. They possess a natural, unpolished patina ranging from deep bronze to light golden brass tones. Visible wear includes surface oxidation, scattered dark spots, and minor pitting consistent with authentic vintage hardware. All bits and shafts appear complete and structurally sound. Working condition with corresponding locks is untested.
