Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad Cast Brass Switch Key by Wilson Bohannan - This is an authentic railroad switch key manufactured for the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad (WNY&PRR). The key is constructed from cast brass and features a characteristic circular bow with a thick barrel ending in a standard switch-style bit. One side of the bow is stamped with the railroad initials WNY&PRR. The reverse side is stamped with the manufacturer mark W. BOHANNAN BROOKLYN, N.Y. Wilson Bohannan was a prominent supplier of locks and keys to the American railroad industry. The Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad operated under this specific title from 1887 until 1900, when it was leased to the Pennsylvania Railroad, providing a specific historical window for the production and use of this item. The key is in good antique condition with a natural, aged patina. The brass shows deep golden tones with areas of darker surface oxidation and minor pitting consistent with authentic railway service. There is visible wear on the barrel and bit from repeated use in a lock mechanism. All stamped markings remain legible. There are no signs of structural damage, cracks, or repairs.
