Antique Hammondsport New York Special Police Shield Badge - This antique obsolete police badge originates from Hammondsport, New York. The badge is shield-shaped and constructed from a silver-toned metal, likely nickel silver or silver-plated brass. The face of the badge features a die-struck design with a beaded inner border. The text on the face includes SPECIAL in block serif capitals at the top, followed by POLICE in a larger, stylized decorative font. The lower portion of the badge is curved with the text HAMMONDSPORT and the state abbreviation N. Y. at the bottom. Decorative geometric dividers are struck between the primary lines of text. The reverse is plain without a maker mark and is fitted with an original horizontal T-bar pin and a C-style clasp. Width: 2 inches (51 mm). Good antique condition. The silver-toned surface exhibits overall fine scratching and areas of tarnish and oxidation consistent with age. There is moderate wear to the high points of the die-struck lettering. The pin and clasp mechanism remains intact and functional.
