A Collection of Antique Knights of Pythias Fraternal Medals and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Insignia - This collection features a variety of fraternal and labor union regalia from the late 19th to early 20th century, primarily associated with the Knights of Pythias and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. The grouping includes triangular medals consisting of silver-toned frames with gold-toned inserts. These pieces display the initials F, C, and B, representing the order's motto of Friendship, Charity, and Benevolence. The central inserts are embossed with the text Knights Pythias and a shield with crossed swords. Reverse markings on these items identify the maker S.S. Davis and carry an 1874 copyright date. The grouping also contains a crest-shaped medal featuring a knight helmet crest above a shield and battle-axe, engraved with the name H. Smith K. of P. on the upper ribbon. Multiple silver-toned linked watch chains are present, decorated with fobs showcasing Knights of Pythias iconography including helmets and the FCB shield. One chain is fitted with a specialized hook for a vest buttonhole, while another chain holds an unengraved shield tag. Also included is a circular enamel Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen lapel pin featuring a lantern and brake wheel motif, preserved on its original retail card marked Gold Plate. The items are constructed from base metals with gold and silver plating. The items are in varied antique condition. The plated medals show minor surface wear, light scratches, and some loss of plating consistent with age. The silver-toned watch chains and fobs exhibit more pronounced surface oxidation and visible green verdigris on several links. The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen pin remains in excellent condition on its original paper card. All pin backings and chain clasps appear to be present and functional.
