A Pair of Antique Fencing Foils - This pair of antique fencing foils is typical of practice weapons used in the late 19th to early 20th century. Both foils feature long, tapering steel blades with a square cross-section, terminating in blunted tips for safety during training. The first foil is equipped with a circular metal dish guard featuring a silver-tone finish and an internal green felt cushion. Its handle consists of a cord-wrapped grip over a wooden core, finishing with a smooth, weighted metal pommel. The second foil features a circular metal dish guard with heavy surface oxidation and an exposed wooden grip that is missing its original wrapping. This second piece terminates in a faceted brass-toned metal pommel. One blade shows a partially visible incised mark near the hilt starting with the letter S, which is obscured by oxidation. Total length: 41.5 inches Blade length: 35 inches. The items are in antique condition with heavy surface rust and oxidation present on both blades. One foil is missing its original grip wrapping, leaving the wooden core exposed. The green felt padding on the matching foil shows significant wear and age-related thinning. General pitting, scuffing, and a thick patina are present across all metal components.
