Bidspirit auction | Italian Gilt Brass Standing Altar

Italian Gilt Brass Standing Altar Crucifix with Figural Relief Base - This is a standing altar crucifix of cast brass construction with a gold-toned finish, likely produced in Italy during the late 19th or early 20th century. The item features a cast corpus of Christ mounted on a cross with ornate openwork terminals and a scrolling INRI titulus above the figure. The cross is supported by a tall, tapered stem featuring multiple turned knops. The structure rests on a weighted tripod base with three scrolling feet in the Rococo style. Each face of the base contains a relief portrait medallion: one depicting the Virgin Mary, one depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a third bearded figure, likely Saint Joseph. The piece is composed of multiple cast sections secured with screws visible on the reverse side. Width of crossbar: approximately 4 inches Total height: approximately 16.5 inches. The item is in good antique condition. The metal surfaces show an aged patina with some darkening and visible green verdigris oxidation in the recessed details and joints. There is general surface wear and minor scratches consistent with the age and liturgical use of the piece.
